This one has been a challenge for me this past week. After over 13 years of faithful employment, I was laid off from a job last week. It was done in a very cold way, but hence, that's the way of business I guess.
A part of me is thankful because this means new opportunities. But a bigger part of me was feeling resentful, sad, angry, and very hurt. So now as a Reiki practitioner, I go to the Reiki precepts and of course the one that sticks out the most at the moment is "Just for today, do not anger." Whoa, that's gonna be a tough one. But there is a reason why it says "Just for today" because we've got to take these things day by day. It's more manageable that way.
After the initial shock and feeling all of those wonderful things mentioned above, I actually started to feel more positive. There's got to be a reason for all of this. A different plan for me. I was really bought into those thoughts. So at 4am this morning, why did I get hit with all of the sudden those memories of sitting in HR and so coldly being told that as of that day, I was no longer an employee there. All of those bad feelings came back. I couldn't shake them. I lay there reliving them again and again thinking what I could have said if only I wasn't so shocked. There's a reason why it's done this way. It was bad.
Finally, I realize that I need to give myself Reiki right away and try to "breathe" out these bad feelings. I could feel the Reiki and finally was able to fall back asleep. I am so thanking to have Reiki available to me on demand as I believe that it really is helping me to let go of a lot of the negativity. I was definitely having an emotional release today as a result and am beginning to feel better. I trust that I will eventually be free of these negative emotions and will not hold onto them. I will continue to work on that.
Why I'm writing this blog
As I move along my spiritual journey with Reiki, many thoughts and questions come to mind. This blog is a sharing of these thoughts and real-life situations and challenges, and how meditating on and practicing the Reiki precepts can facilitate spiritual growth.
Comments and perspectives of others are welcome.

Peace and compassion
9/11 - on this day of remembrance, my Reiki meditation focuses on healing and compassion for others. So many people lost, hurting, angry.
For today, join with me in setting your intention to send healing Reiki out to the world. May this healing bring peace, finally true peace to the world. May it touch the hearts of all. If we all focus on healing and peace in this world, it will be true.
Namaste

Oh it's the most busiest time of the year!
OK. Time to remember to breathe...can't just schedule that in. Yes, I'm feeling I'm at the top of the hill on a roller coaster and things are about to get going really fast. Between back to school stuff, fall activities starting, home life, work, and getting new projects going, time is in big demand right now. So with all of that going on, how can one fit in the time for Reiki and meditation before crashing into bed at the end of the day?
Well, my best plan for this is to be organized and try to schedule that time in just like all other activities are scheduled. My guess is that this is not always going to work out, but I AM going to give it the best try. I think that once I'm into the rhythm of it all, it will fall into place and I'll feel all the better for it. In a time where I'll be expending a lot of energy in a lot of different places, it only makes sense to make time to recharge and relax. Gotta remember to not be hard on myself if all doesn't go as planned - I'll just have to adjust to what works. This time going into things, I definitely feel more connected to knowing that making time for Reiki and meditation on a daily basis is going to be a huge asset for me and well worth the work to make time for it. I think it will help me to keep my sanity through all of these busy times. I'll report on how this is working out. Gotta get going to make sure that I have time tonight for it. Peace and love to you. Namaste.

Just for today...do not worry. Really?
I've been trying to really meditate on the Reiki Precepts lately and this brought about an interesting discussion with my husband tonight....
There's a possibility of our area getting hit with rain resulting from a hurricane that could be on the coast near us this weekend. So my husband starts wondering out-loud about whether our water-prone basement will be flooding this weekend. He's a Reiki 1 practitioner, so I say to him lightly, "Just for today, do not worry." He responded that preparation is necessary so that we have what we need to avoid major problems and he is right.
So this made me think, there is a difference between being prepared and worrying about something. Preparing for something can be done in a positive light, to work toward making the best possible outcome. Worrying about something is different in that it wastes a lot of time and energy and usually does not result in significant, positive results. I think that this is a part of how the Reiki precept, "Just for today, do not worry" is meant to help guide us. Focusing on worrying about "what might happen" distracts us from the current moment and can make the reality of a situation less clear.
